Instant Gratification (poem)

instant-gratification

Young ones and old ones alike don’t care to delay ,

they eat and drink bad things yesterday and today.

Promises made to themselves – to cutback on fats and sugar,

then Friday comes around, and the inevitable peer pressures.

“I’ll only have one drink tonight, I’m starting my diet tomorrow”,

Next thing they know, they’re hungover

with headache and

guttural discomfort.

Why is it so hard to say no to that donut or that beer,

those nuggets of nondescript pieces of meat?

Is it willpower that’s the issue?

The cause of this foodie abuse?

Perhaps, because, in this day and age,

we’re used to getting everything right away!

We no longer have to toil the fields,

just to cook up a simple meal…

Things get delivered straight to our doors,

an endless supply of consumer items,

resource-loving mammals, we just want more.

Black Friday sales, humans begin fighting!

Instant gratification,

it’s easy as pie,

delicious pie, oh the fixation!

Give carbs a rest, folks, and keep on your diets.

Peace out.
