War Films?

Let’s hear your thoughts, folks.

Here’s my list – –

1. Saving Private Ryan

2. The Thin Red Line

3. Black Hawk Down

4. Full Metal Jacket

5. Fury

6. Star Wars (technically a war film, yes)

7. Braveheart

8. Gallipoli

9. Windtalkers

10. The Patriot

Surprisingly, no Platoon or Apocalypse Now, not my cup of tea. Too much talking and not story and not enough BLAM BLAM BOOM action!

  1. I’ll try and avoid pointing out inconsistencies, like that Full Metal Jacket doesn’t feature any BLAM BLAM BOOM action either for the first 60-70% of the movie…oops. Did it anyway. Forget I said that.

I’m assuming these are favorites, rather than a “best of” list, so I’ll add another ten of my own favorites to expand upon your selections. I liked watching all your choices except The Patriot, and I do consider anti-war films as still being in the same genre.

All Quiet on the Western Front, Das Boot, The Big Red One, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Paths of Glory, The Longest Day, Duck You Sucker, Lawrence of Arabia, Patton, and Master & Commander.

    • Yeah, I’m not saying these are the ten best war films ever.
I’ll check out some of your favourites,
but I am just a bit wary of watching older films, particularly black and white ones…….I know, I’m a pleb! haha

  2. Kubrick’s Paths of Glory is a terribly hard film to shake once you’ve seen it.

  3. The Great Escape! One of my all-time favorite movies in any genre.
