So, this is it, Stevie G. Your last game, tonight, for Liverpool F.C. after 17 years of service. You never won the Premier League, that sucks. But you won the European Champions League in 2005 in the most dramatic final of all time (pictured above). You also won the FA Cup twice, most recently in 2005, a game in which you scored the equalizing goal (a 35 yard screamer) in the dying minutes of the game to take it to penalties, where your goalkeeper, Pepe Reina saved the final penalty kick.
In your prime, you were possibly the best all-round midfielder in the world (Zinedine Zidane said it himself, not much higher praise than that, eh)! Your pinpoint passes, both short and extreeeeemly long passes, your tackling, running rate, goalscoring ability and most of all, your leadership, which took some of the sub-par squads you played with to heights they never could have reached with a lesser captain.
I will miss you, Sir. Good luck in America, and I hope at some point in the future, you can coach Liverpool to at least one Premier League trophy.
Goodby, you Scouse legend!
