1914 – No Man’s Land Kickoff!

Germans, waving their arms across the trenches, the Allies think a trap is nigh, They think about shooting them, but they are unarmed, they are singing instead!

German and English Christmas Carols, belted out in each other’s tongues, a football is produced, they shake hands with one another,

No referees, no scorelines, nothing at stake except warmth and humanity, humanity wins though, in this barren dead space, laughter and joy, death and misery it replaces.

The year, 1914, the war is young and the demeanors broken, but kicking a ball displaces angst, happiness reigns supreme, for a short time.

Gewhers and Lee Enfields laid down on the mud, the enemies are together having fun, Turns out the Germans won the game of football, as they bloody always do,

But the British won the most important game against Germany, in 1966 in Wembley Stadium, the score was 4 goals to 2, We won, Germany! We’re better than you!!

Just kidding. Bye. 😉
