Do Kids Still Read Books?

I ask this question, because I would like to, some day, get around to writing a series of short stories for children (ages about 8-12).

Does this subset of the human race still read books? I’d like to think that they do, but they probably just want an app version of the stories that can be directly downloaded into their brains or something, huh?
